Craft Tourism in Hasami Town

Hasami Town Craft Tourism Hasami Town is famous for its pottery production, especially its pottery casting technique. Hasami ware is a traditional Japanese ceramic produced in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture, and the most important technique in the pottery casting technique is ikomi.

On the first day of our trip to Hasami Town, we visited Takayama Co., Ltd.


Hasami pottery is a fusion of traditional techniques and modern design, giving it a unique beauty. After learning the basic techniques, you can turn the potter's wheel and create your own unique piece of pottery.



In Hasami Town, you can make fun memories while creating high-quality works of art with your family and friends. Since not only adults but also children can participate, it is a perfect place to visit with your family during long holidays such as summer vacation.

On the third day of our trip to Hasami Town, we used a technique called "ikomi" to paint a design onto a ceramic cup, pour in glaze into it, let it cool and harden, and create a beautiful cup shape. Ikomi is a technique that can easily create even very complex shapes.




After that, I painted colorful pictures on top of the cat design to create my own cat design.


During lunch, we all made soba noodles together. First, we started by learning about the ingredients and steps to make soba noodles. Thanks to the guidance of the local people, we were able to make delicious soba noodles using a variety of ingredients.


In particular, it is made using fresh vegetables and locally grown ingredients from Hasami Town, making it even more delicious.




Cooking and eating with friends made it even more special and fun.



Hasami Trip Day 2 On the second day of our Hasami trip, we visited the Hasami Museum History and Culture Center. This is a cultural facility in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture, that introduces a wide range of the history and culture of Hasami Town.



This museum displays Hasami's traditional pottery and the history of the region, and you can see a variety of Hasami pottery from each era.



The Hasami Town History and Culture Center is a valuable place to gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of the region. It is an important cultural hub for both tourists and locals, and visitors can enjoy a wide range of exhibits and experiences.


Also, near the History and Culture Center, there is a facility that produces lifelike food samples, a part of Japan's unique culture. Here, you can see the small menu samples and food models (food samples) that are displayed at the entrances of Japanese restaurants.




There you can experience making your own food replica of your favorite dish.


In addition, the students went into the nearby river to search for ceramic fragments from various periods that tell the history of Hasami Town. Professor Nakano gave detailed explanations about the ceramic fragments that they found.

He carefully explained the characteristics of each era.


They also had the valuable experience of choosing their favorite piece of pottery from fragments they found in the river and turning it into a keepsake pendant.
