Craft Kyushu | A report from an international student living in Kyushu about the real experiences and excitement of traditional crafts

CHEN ZIAN
Kyushu, Japan Hasami Pottery Tour
Hasami Town is located almost in the center of Nagasaki Prefecture. It is about a 40-minute drive from Huis Ten Bosch. Unlike other bustling tourist cities in Japan, when you drive to Hasami Town, you can feel the tranquility brought by nature. Hasami Town is famous as a pottery production area, and there are about 400 pottery-related businesses within the area, employing about 2,000 people. We visited a Hasami ware workshop in a building called "Nishi no Hara" in Hasami Town.

Nishinohara also has many historic rooms.

However, advances in technology have led to these old methods being gradually phased out and replaced by more efficient assembly line production.

In the afternoon, I also worked with others on painting porcelain.
Create your own original plate.
In addition, Hasami ware also has a modern design brand called Minamikura.

As a cooking enthusiast, this was so appealing to me that I ended up buying two.

Using it to present both Japanese and Western cuisine will add a touch of luxury.
The natural beauty of Hasami Town

When you come to Onukida in Hasami Town, you can feel the tranquility and peace of nature as soon as you enter the entrance.

The area has a distinctive landscape of terraced fields and is also a producer of Hasami rice and green tea.

There are tea plantations at the top of the mountain.

The tea farmers also prepared snacks and iced tea for us.

Freshly harvested honey is also available.

Smell the aroma of tea, drink herbal tea, feel the cool breeze, listen to the cicadas chirping in your ears. It seemed like the August heat had disappeared by more than half.
Hasami Town, a town of pottery with 400 years of history, and Cave Pizza
Deep in the mountains lies Hasami Town, a small town where people have been supporting their families with pottery for hundreds of years, and today it produces around 11% of Japan's ceramics.
There are lots of beautiful hidden sights within the city.

Would you like to experience Hasami ware?
In the afternoon, we went to a restaurant called "Shikisha."

Although the restaurant does not have air conditioning, it is very cool because it is located on the mountain. The decoration style is also very grandiose. The boss is an 81-year-old grandfather. He will also teach you how to make pizza in a cave.
