Beppu Experience Diary

Japanese, English

When I first visited the Beppu City Bamboo Craft Traditional Industry Hall, I was deeply moved by the beauty and delicate craftsmanship of Beppu’s bamboo art. From that moment, I developed a strong interest in bamboo art.

Rather than simply viewing the works, I was struck by the possibilities of bamboo as a material and by the depth of the techniques that have been passed down through generations.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the teacher for organizing such a meaningful event and for giving me the opportunity to participate in the creation of a bamboo dome from scratch.

Being able to understand and experience every stage of the process—from preparing the materials to assembling the structure—was truly amazing.

Working together with my schoolmates and members of the local community, sharing ideas and supporting one another, was both enjoyable and invaluable.

I am also deeply thankful to the teacher for the careful guidance throughout the project, and to everyone who joined forces to bring the dome to completion.

Currently, I am working on a digital project that uses AI to develop multilingual audio guides for museums and cultural facilities.

I hope to make use of my experience and expertise in the IT industry, together with the insights gained from this project, to share the charm of Beppu—including its bamboo art—with people around the world.

Through this experience, my desire to promote Beppu’s bamboo art internationally has grown even stronger.

I hope many people will come to understand that Beppu is not only famous for its hot springs, but is also a city rich in inspiring bamboo art and cultural heritage.
